The Last of Us Will Feature Some Form of Multiplayer

The community representative from Naughty Dog, Eric Monacelli, recently replied to fans’ inquiries about the new, spectacular trailer released for The Last of Us, leaving some interesting news to whet our appetites.

In response to some jerk saying he wouldn’t buy the game without multiplayer, Monacelli had this to say: “We have not announced any plans about online multiplayer but there will be some kind of multiplayer aspect to the game.”

Monacelli coupled this with the fact that “what you see if all in-game footage” in the trailer itself, meaning we’re in for an amazing visual experience when we finally get our hands on this beautiful title. Of course, we haven’t seen any gameplay yet, but we’ll put our faith in Naughty Dog to deliver.

The question is, what does he mean by “some kind?” I wouldn’t bet on the typical arena-based shooting or the like, and his emphasis on “some kind” without the all-important “online” fixed to it is surely foreshadowing something, but it’s hard to say without even seeing the game in action yet.

Update: The director of the game, Bruce Stanley, also replied to the many droves of people wondering what exactly this multiplayer could be. Obviously, he didn’t break it down for them, but he had this to say:

“We’re working on a bunch of ideas, but we haven’t nailed anything down. We definitely know it’s going to be awesome.”
