Crytek recently announced they’d be going exclusively free-to-play for any future games developed after their current in-production titles (see: Crysis 3). You might have seen that TimeSpiltters 4 has recently been “teased” as well, though the information has been mostly perpetuated by enthusiastic fans. Are you wondering how these two points are related? Well, we recently questioned the possibility of a f2p TimeSplitters, and it seems that there might be something to that.
Cevat Yeril, CEO of Crytek, has said that they won’t be making a retail TimeSplitters title. Although he loves the idea, and that fans would eat it up, publishers aren’t so enthused; the series never sold gangbusters in the past, so that’s understandable.
However, Yerli did offer a glimmer of hope, albeit with a slight stipulation: TimeSplitters could make a comeback, but only as a free-to-play title. Under GFace, Crytek’s own game-streaming service, this could come to fruition. As Yurli said himself, “I love the picture of a Timesplitters running on GFACE.”
If you were thinking that Facebook page asking for 100,000 “likes” was irrelevant, you might be surprised to hear what Yerli had to say: “if we get enough fans, being loud enough, then the Yeti can come back, on GFACE.” So? Get on it, TimeSpitters fans!
