Last week, we wrote about how Gearbox president and CEO Randy Pitchford wanted to see his company’s much awaited game, Borderlands 2, on the Vita. He advised us to try and convince Sony to do that, because he probably doesn’t want to pay someone to get the ball rolling, so why not rely on the fans? That, or Sony’s being a bucket of dicks, take your pick.
At a recent preview of the game, PSU had the chance to ask Pitchford for some clarification. You know, like, if there’s actually a Borderlands 2 coming to the Vita, and who might be developing it. Pitchford proclaimed that, since his enthusiasm for the idea hit the media, three separate developers have approached Gearbox with interest in doing the port for them. He didn’t name any, and he assured everyone that there’s absolutely no Vita version in the works yet, as he’s waiting for Sony to step in.
While I’m no expert, I don’t know why Gearbox doesn’t contract the work out, instead of pointing fingers at Sony and asking them to do something about it. As far as I was aware, companies could hire outside help without the platform manufacturer’s approval, as they often do for ports. At any rate, I’d love to take a Borderlands on the go. I never quite got into it while sitting in front of my television, but something about this being portable seems to be the magic combination. What about you?
