Sony Curiously Trademarks “Rain,” “Until Dawn” Before Gamescom

Sony’s been rumored to have two high-profile reveals lined up for Gamescom next week, and some curious trademarks have popped up just in time for the mega-conference. “Rain” and “Until Dawn,” which are now registered in the US and Europe, are both categorized under what would amount to new “video games.”  We won’t know for sure what they mean, if anything, until at least Sony’s Gamescom conference next Tuesday, but here, have some of the meager info we know anyway.

According to Joystiq, “Until Dawn” was registered on OHIM (the European trademarking office) this Spring and on USPTO in August, with “Rain” registered under both systems on July 30th.  The picture above was apparently filed along with the trademark, and was not made by a retarded chimp with access to the alphabet and Microsoft Paint. Besides that, nothing’s really known, and it’s just a little bit hard to guess what the hell the phrases “rain” and “until dawn” have to do with the vidya.

The first one’s probably not anything related to Heavy Rain, because that would be a silly conjecture based on analogous terms and Sony is far too clever for that. Here’s a thoroughly educated guess that’s way more likely for the second one, given the current climate of games: lots and lots of zombies attacking until dawn.
