PopCap is confirmed to have some undercover project in the works, but it looks like some sly cooper has leaked the secret. According to validated rumors, the developer is expanding the Plants Vs. Zombies franchise… with a console-based first-person shooter. Yes, seriously.
An alleged mole has supposeldy spoke to someone with ties to Electronic Arts, who said that there is a small team working on a new, enticingly different entry into the PvZ franchise. Apparently, it is as far away from tower-defense titles as possible. It doesn’t matter, though; the source says that the team is aiming for a game similar to Team Fortress 2, of all things.
I’ll say this: it’s unexpected. I can’t really picture a multiplayer shooter based after PvZ, but it’s almost assuredly going to be an incredibly unique experience if true. The source notes that the game is in its very early concept stages, and hasn’t even been approved by PopCap yet, which is a great way to explain away reports of a really shifty rumor. Still, this would be rather, uh, interesting, wouldn’t it?
